Not A Clue

It was apparent from tonight’s C News Poll that a majority of the respondents did not have a clue about the lack of rules, regulations and laws regarding building construction in TnT.

The poll asked if it was thought the rules were not rigid enough or if there was a lack of enforcement when it comes to buildings and 90% said lack of enforcement. Uh, people… if there are no rules, how can it be enforced?

How many of the respondents knew that Trinidad doesn’t have an official building code or not even attempting to adopt an internationally acceptable one? To compound matters, sorry… to make the racket and corruption easier… if no one knows the rules, how do you know what to do?

When you have people like Sheryl Anne Haynes of Town and Country who can’t control her people (they make any approval happen for the requisite ‘fee’) and is even guilty herself of giving dubious advice to people who want approvals for suspect construction, how does enforcement happen? These people are responsible for toothless legislation and using it as an excuse to make money!

God forbid that a Haiti happens here because our buildings are not built the way the Chileans knew they had to do it…
