Part Of The Message

So you did notice that I was trying to stay away as part of my New Year’s resolution… :-)

But today is a historical day and I had to re-surface to listen to President Barack Obama’s inaugural speech. And what will catch my ear as a Trini…

“To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend our hand if you are willing to unclench your fist”

We haven’t reached the stage where the President will consider that TnT is like that, but his advisors should take a close read of Patrick’s constitution and make a judgment call in their daily briefing of where we are headed. Or, it will be the same old story that the US turns a blind eye once oil and gas are involved…

My new project starts now: writing to the White House on why the US President should not come here in April (my US contacts doubts very much  that it will happen in the first place, but you can’t be too sure…)

The thing that annoys me the the most is that all the ‘black’ Caribbean leaders (no apologies for that description) believes that President Obama in some way endorses them by him just being black and I think that it’s a racist position. He should be asked to stay away because their intent is to ride his wave and nothing else.

If he comes to Trinidad, the most arrogant of them all will believe that he was ‘sanctioned’ in some way.  My favourite phrase – cognitive dissonance- they truly cannot see that they can never be like Obama, but they believe that they are. I’ve gone so far to even tell people that even African-Americans who will naturally want to ‘own’ Obama are not like him. Here is the son of a Kenyan and a Kansan raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii. Absolutely nothing in common with a typical African-American…

Barack Obama has so much goodwill, he can change the world through changing the American mindset. Patrick will only take us to poverty and dictatorship – and that will be our legacy. And how does Obama coming here in April change what is in store for us?
