Gift Of Life

Ever since I caught the episode MSNBC ran about the candidates in the US 2008 elections, I’ve feared for Barack Obama. Making specific note that it was the first time a presidential nominee had to get a security detail from the Secret Service so early in the race – during the primaries when he was still running for his party’s nomination – my comment was that he wears it well.

I would have been a mental wreck by now if I had to go through crowds of people thinking that there may be someone out there who wants to harm or kill me. And let’s face it, it’s an anathema to some far right extremists to even consider a black man as President of the United States. As he is doing so good in the polls, the fear gets even greater.

So, in the last three weeks of the US campaign as the language is getting more incendiary from a desperate Republican campaign (today was the robocall with the key words – “terrorist”, “killed Americans”, “leftist agenda”), I will be praying not so much for a Democratic win as I will be praying that Barack Obama continues to live and inspire many more to reach as he did.

The world cannot afford the dangerous presidency of a John McCain and an even more dangerous Sarah Palin a heartbeat away. These people are exceptionalists and have no intention of making the world a more peaceful place. And in case you are wondering, yes, if Hillary had won the nomination, my feelings will still be the same.
